pen Ecanus•net :: Poems

So here we are, Fallen Angel's poetry page. I thought about arranging them by subject, then I thought about arranging them by date, and then it all started getting rather complicated, so I decided instead just to stick with a plain and simple A to Z by title. Want to see all the poems with titles beginning with C? Just click the 'C' and as if by magic the poems shall appear! Them squirrels that run this place ain't half speedy!

This is my assorted collection of poems spanning the years. These cover many times, places and feelings. Some have details of where I was when I wrote them, what I was doing, and what inspired them. With others, it's so long ago now I've no idea where they came from, only that I liked them enough to keep them around.

Some were written as 'me', some for other people, and some while I was trying to get "into character" for whatever I happened to be writing at the time – the weird ones, I'm claiming insanity grounds on. ;–)

Learning to Fly

Head in the clouds, one eye on the sky,
Dreams of the future, learning to fly.
No thoughts of whatís past now
The memories are gone,
Accept that it happened, accept it was wrong.
A new day is dawning, the future is near,
Just out of grasp now, but all seems so clear.
Itís way up in the clouds now,
But you can do it if you try,
With each day itís closer,
Learning to fly.

Head in the clouds, one eye on the sky,
Making future from dreams, learning to fly.

Little Boy Blue

Little boy, blue,
why do you fight?
It's well within your means
to make things alright.
It isnít a battle you have to win,
to compromise isn't a sin.

Little boy, blue,
why do you push friends away?
Using them selfishly
while your games you play.

Little boy, blue
the centre of the universe is you,
the feelings of others, you haven't a clue.
Where's your former kindness, empathy?
What prompted this descent into apathy?

Little boy, blue,
will you ever act your age?
Rather than allowing the little boy
The man to upstage.

Live for every day

Enjoy every moment, live for every day
Don't sweat the small stuff, let nothing get in the way
Believe anything is possible, follow the dreams you hold dear
Share good times with those close to you, keeping the ones you love near
Take pleasure from the simple things, a sunset, a dewdrop, a flower
You have the power of contentment, within you lies the power
Look at things around you, hear beauty in the world
Taste freshness in the new day, smell the scent of flowers unfurled
Relax, feel the joy of physical sensation
Make each day a celebration
Don't search and you'll find joy unexpected
It will find us unsuspected.

Look towards the future

Look towards the future,
Believe there's good to come,
Know the past canít hurt you now,
That battle has been won.
Though the past it may have demons,
We must accept them and move on,
Though there are many painful memories,
Their pain can make us strong.
Remember the good time,
Of happiness and delight,
Use these memories of better times,
For the pain to fight.
Look towards the future,
Believe there's good to come,
The past can only hurt if you let it,
Keep believing that you can move on.

Losing the Music

In a single bar, a simple melody is all the world
In that brief sound a world of memories unleashed.
Sights and sounds, taste and smell,
the essence of then.
Yet now the harmonies are gone,
The fullness of the sound reduced to its core,
Its nuances lost.
Now I have only the memory of that world
within a world.
My mind tries to fill in the gaps,
my fingers clutching the stave of the chords
like bars of a prison cell
with me on the wrong side.
And yet sometimes in my dreams I think I hear
the restoration of what it once was,
but then I wake again
to find Iím losing the music.

Love in the back streets of Scunthorpe

I walk in the rain
With your letter clutched to my chest
Wondering why the world is all changed,
vaguely hoping it's for the best.

I've travelled so far from home now,
To a world where everything's new,
I travelled away for the health of my heart,
To escape the memory of you.

The ghosts they are all fading now,
The constant ache is gone.
But as I walk in the rain
I again feel the pain
and still see the memory of you.

And as I walk through dark streets
I encounter a child
With a fairness resembling your darkness.
And the stranger smiles, and hands me a flower,
and leaves without speaking a word.

So I walk in the rain, but I now feel no pain
and your letter is safe from harm's way.
And the child, and his smile, and his flower,
remind me of you, but there are things I must do.
I must travel again, to the place and the rain
and bury the pain far from you.
For now when I travel, I travel for me,
And not from the memory of you.
